Since 4 April 2000, when it first appeared on our screens, 7de Laan has become one of SABC 2’s flagship productions. Drawing almost 2 million viewers daily, it has already won three popular choice awards this year.

7de Laan is die brainchild of Danie Odendaal, who conceived the idea twenty years ago. Living in Melville at the time, he used to watch the comings and goings of a wide variety of interesting people while having breakfast at his favourite coffee shop - et voila! Life in the Laan was born!

Needless to say, the 7de Laan cast, crew, production team and writers are avid fans who support the Bokke as enthusiastically as our viewers. We’ve even created a special storyline for the occasion in which Hilda saves up to send Oubaas to the World Cup as a special surprise. But then she finds out that Matrone is scheming to join him down under and has to resort to drastic measures to prevent such a catastrophe!

Oubaas (Pierre van Pletzen) is also involved in the recording of a special World Cup Rugby song with SABC2 and kwaito artist, Professor. Called “It’s Our Game”, the song is meant to accompany the “Bok Jive”, a dance created by Kalawa and choreographer Cassius Tlhotlhalemaje, who was responsible for the Soccer World Cup dance that took the country by storm last year.
