Almost 3 years after "Be the Lion", South Africa's favourite retro rockers, SGQ are releasing their third album 'Delusions of Grandeur'. It has been a rough 2 years for the group, a divorce within the band and the loss of an original member, both issues that could sink any hardened Rock 'n Roll trio, but like a phoenix SGQ rose from the ashes and came out stronger than ever before.
In February 2010 the Gods of Rock put the Wilson trio on the doorstep of the very respected producer/musician Theo Crous. Together with Theo most of the year was spent writing and recording the album. 'Delusions of Grandeur' is testament to this great partnership, Theo played a huge role in making the album more accessible to a larger audience without losing that dirtyness that is SGQ.
The album consists of 11 tracks and is a sonic journey from beginning to end, pampering your every emotion. The first single "Angels' Wings" was the first song written for the album and is a really moving song about the excesses of frontman Gareth's Rock 'n Roll journey thus far. The vocal talents of Paul and Tammy stand out on tracks like "I see you" and "99 red balloons" ( a cover version of the 80's classic). Though the album is more produced than "Be the Lion", tracks like "Stop Running away" and "All up in my soul" prove that SGQ are rocking harder than ever before.
"Delusions of Grandeur" has most certainly proved to be SGQ's swan song thus far and is an album every Rock 'n Rolla has to have in their collection.
